Sexual Dysfunction Evaluation & Treatment
Sexual dysfunction (or sexual malfunction or sexual disorder) is difficulty experienced by an individual or a couple during any stage of a normal sexual activity, including physical pleasure, desire, preference, arousal or orgasm.
Some female patients may experience decreased arousal or difficulty with orgasm. This can be primary (the patient has always had this difficulty) or secondary (difficulty present now which was not present previously). The condition can be due to age, decline in hormones, prescription medication or changes in the female anatomy. Most patients can have a return of a satisfying sex life with treatment by an experienced provider. The O-Shot often will help tremendously in patients with difficulties achieving orgasm, vaginal dryness and even urinary leakage.
Low testosterone in men (and women) is a very common condition which can adversely affect how you live and age. Low testosterone is now known to be a risk factor for diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, dementia, osteoporosis and more!
Females often experience difficulties with menopause but often other hormonal imbalances occur 10-15 years BEFORE the onset of menopause! Women with low testosterone often exhibit symptoms such as irritability, joint pain, disrupted sleep, fatigue, memory changes, trouble concentrating, poor muscle recovery, poor response to exercise, and weight gain (especially around the waist). Sexual symptoms such as low libido and orgasmic dysfunction often are seen. While testosterone replacement is essential to restoring sexual function in patients who are experiencing sexual dsyfunction, restoration of normal levels of testosterone alone may not be sufficient to restore normal sexual function.
A simple blood test can tell if you may be suffering from hormonal imbalance. The treatment is simple. Dr. DeAn Strobel and her staff have many years of experience in treating women with bioidentical hormones.
Dr. Strobel is an experienced provider of subcutaneous bioidentical pellet therapy using the BioTE Method. While various methods of bioidentical hormone replacement are available, the BioTE Method is the only one that offers sustained, constant delivery of testosterone which mimics normal physiologic levels without the peaks and troughs seen often with other methods.
Treatment of sexual dysfunction depends on the cause as well as what particular issue is being addressed. Pain during orgasm or intercourse should be evaluated. Other conditions often seen and treated are: low desire (or low libido), orgasmic dysfunction, vaginal dryness/itching/burning, vaginal laxity and even urinary incontinence. Patients experiencing these issues must be able to communicate with her healthcare provider her concerns so that treatment options may be discussed.
